There will be lots to do and see on the day, here is a flavour…
Workshops
Preserving - Lynn Coles Women’s Institute member for many years will be there on the day demonstrating how to make jams and chutneys, even in the microwave! If you are interested in this workshop you will need to express your interest on the day as there will be limited numbers.
City Foraging – Paul Paine will be showing around small groups of people around Windmill Park discovering unusual sources of food. There will be two tours on the day, morning and afternoon.

Activities
Apple pressing is back – bring your apples to press or press some of hours. This was very successful last year and is back by popular demand.
Seasonal fruit smoothy maker – provided by Wollaton and Bramcote Transtion, pedal your way to a healthy fresh drink.
Hucknal wine circle – Country wines, with free samples and advice on homebrewing with the seasonal glut. (Stricly over 18’s only).
Barter Area – swap your potatoes for jam! Bring any surplus produce you have and swap it for something you would like to try. You can bring surplus fruit and vegetables, preserves, jams, pickles anything edible so long as you have made (or grown) it yourself. There will be a limit of one small bag of runner beans, apples and courgettes per person.
Transition Nottingham Recipie book – we will be producing a small booklet for the day with seasonal recipies and stories with samples to taste.
Make your own burgers for kids – J.T. Beedham who are providing locally produced beef burgers will be helping children to make thier own burgers, cook them and of course they can them eat them. This will be ongoing throughout the day.
Nottingham City Council Allotments – Transition Nottingham will be hosting a ‘Cafe’ event where you the public can discuss where the council should be heading with the allottment strategy. Times to be announced.

Fruit and Notts - We are aiming to plant as many fruit and nut trees as possible in the Forest Fields, Hyson Green and Arboretum areas of Nottingham. They will be in public places and act as a visual reminder of local resilience and community. http://fruitandnotts.weebly.com/. This project is a collaboration between Transition Forest Fields and the Partnership Council’s ‘Sprout’ Project. http://www.transitionff.co.uk/
Launch of Nottinham Abundance - It is a voluntary project which seeks to harvest fruit and nuts from unpicked trees/bushes in back yards, waste grounds and roadsides. Surplus fruit is then distributed to community groups across the city and used to make jams, fruit juices, crumbles and so forth, to stop it going to waste! Sprout – ‘Sprout’ is a project based at the Partnership Council in Nottingham that supports young people aged 16-25 to set up and run their own environmental projects. Sprout also organises environmental events throughout the year for young people to get involved in Environmental Volunteering. At the Urban Harvest Festival Sprout will be promoting the ‘food’ related projects that it’s volunteers are involved in. These include; a project led by May Bate called ‘Fruit and Notts’ where fruit and nut trees were planted on public spaces across ‘Area 4′ of the City, and a partnership with Nottingham Organic Gardeners where young people are helping them on their allotment site and learning organic gardening techniques.
