The Urban Harvest Festival team wish to than all those peole who took part in the event however small a part you think you played – everyone’s energy counts.

We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. If you came to the evnt we hope you found it fun, interesting and inspiring. Any suggestions for next year will be most welcome.

Come along to an open cafe style event hosted bt Transition Nottingham, to discuss this vital question.  The aim is to bring our ideas and creativity to the discussion, and also to come up with an action plan of how to take things forward.

We are hoping that a new sub-group of Transition Nottingham, focussing on food, will emerge from this discussion.

Conventional food production consumes large amounts of fossil fuels and is responsible for considerable carbon dioxide emissions. A key aim of the transition process is to produce an Energy Descent Action Plan – a plan for how the community will sustain itself and thrive whilst reducing our dependence on fossil fuels and our CO2 emissions. We need to look at all aspects of how we feed ourselves in Nottingham, and how we will do this in the future. The solutions we come up with will form part of the back bone of our Energy Descent Action Plan.

To do this we need input from anyone who has an interest in food (most of us?) – growers, producers, sellers and eaters!

Nottingham city council are forming a strategy about the futire of Nottinghma’s allotments, but in order to do this they need input from you the public.

Hosted by Transition Nottingham groups and individuals are invited to take part in an open discussion to come up with ideas and suggestions which allotments officer Alan Schofield can take back to the council and put into the strategy.

Alan Schofield will give an introduction to his role and the allotment strategy consultation, then it will over to you to talk about what you would like the council to include in the document in small groups. The notes from the day will then be recorded by a Transition Nottingham volunteer and passed onto Alan.

If you have an allotment, are part of a community group or organisation or just an interested individual then please come along on the day to take part on what we hope will be a stimulating discussion. It will take part in the afternoon at 2:30 on the green outside of the windmill and will last for about an hour

This Urban Harvest, Abundance is coming to Nottingham. Orginating from Sheffield, Abundance  volunteers find unharvested fruit in parks, canalsides or private gardens, gather the fruit and distrubes it to groups who need it. If you would like to find out more about this exciting and dynamic group of urban gatherers, come and meet them at the Urban Harvest Festival.

We will be having a barter area

Where you will be able to swap produce you have grown, canned, pickled, preserved in some way.

The barter table though small was popular last year so we are hoping we can expand it this year os have a dig around ytour garden or cupboards and see what gooddies you can find.

Last year we pressed who knows how may apples – can we go better this year?

Start collecting your windfalls the week before the festival and bring them along on the day to make some juice. Tell all your friends and fellow allotment holders too.
