Transition Nottingham's Renewable Energy Expo, Saturday 29th August, Central Avenue, West Bridgford, Nottingham. 10am till 3pm FREE The Energy Expo will be looking at all forms of renewable energy generation – solar thermal hot water heating, solar PV to produce electricity from sunlight, domestic wind turbines, underfloor heating and ground source heat pumps as well as insulation and state-of-the-art technologies in domestic combined heat and power.
Jane Burd the organiser of the festival said: “We need to move forward and be proactive about our response to peak oil and climate change. Nottingham is a forward looking city in its reaction to peak oil and climate change and Transition is a network of forward looking people who want to do more. This is their opportunity to start to reduce their carbon footprints and their energy bills.”
At the Midsummer Energy Festival we learned about energy in all its forms. We learned how much energy we use in our everyday life, how important it is to reduce the amount of energy we use and that we need to make the switch from energy based on fossil fuels to energy that is created from renewable and sustainable sources. As a nation we know we cannot carry on using fossil fuels as energy sources but must make the transition to a low carbon future.
Recently the Department for Energy and Climate Change produced a document called the Low Carbon Transition Plan. In it, the Government calls for action and plans to combat climate change. It also talks of feedback tariffs so that you will get paid for energy that you produce and sell back to the national grid. It also asks for every community to get involved. So this Energy Expo is very timely. It fits right in with the Governments thinking – but we were thinking it first!
